A disease associated with the way a person or group of people lives.
Lifestyle diseases include atherosclerosis, heart disease, and stroke; obesity and type 2 diabetes; and diseases associated with smoking and alcohol and drug abuse. Regular physical activity helps prevent obesity, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, colon cancer, and premature mortality.
India is faced with a triple burden of existing communicable diseases, emerging new infectious and non – communicable diseases (NCDs). NCDs like diabetes, heart disease and cancer of epidemic proportions, present the greatest challenge.
NCDs are estimated to account for nearly 75% of all deaths. Low-and middle-income countries like India share a disproportionate 80% of the NCD mortality burden. This high burden poses a substantial threat to India’s socioeconomic development.
It is time to act now to adopt a Healthy life style in the families from an early age to combat these diseases with a proper balanced diet, regular exercise and physical activity, no tobacco, stress control and by giving due respect to biological clock.’
